Here’s a quick recipe for a Copycat Taco Bell Quesadilla Sauce that tastes just like the restaurant version. It’s perfect to use on quesadillas, but this copycat recipe also tastes great on french fries, chicken tenders or even as a spread on sandwiches!

This copycat recipe is my own version of Taco Bell’s really popular and delicious quesadilla sauce. It’s essentially a ‘chipotle’ sauce, but one that tastes incredibly similar to the restaurant version.
What Makes This Copycat Taco Bell Quesadilla Sauce So Good?
This Taco Bell Quesadilla Sauce recipe combines a few very select ingredients into something greater than the sum of their parts.
These ingredients come together into a rich, creamy chipotle sauce that tastes tangy, spicy, fruity and smoky all at once – it is so good!
While my recipe for this copycat Taco Bell quesadilla sauce is similar to other versions that can be found online, there is a subtle modification that I make.
When trying other similar recipes, there is something that I felt was missing when compared to the restaurant version of this sauce.

There’s a subtle distinction that I taste in the restaurant Taco Bell Quesadilla Sauce that none of these other online recipes seemed to capture.
It’s a flavor that, in my opinion, can only be duplicated by adding one additional, very specific ingredient – plus a minor substitution of another ingredient.
However, I don’t think this recipe is a perfect copycat without the addition of this one very specific ingredient – keep reading to find out what it is!
How Is Your Version of Taco Bell’s Quesadilla Sauce Different Than Other Similar Copycat Recipes?
As I mentioned in other articles on this website, everyone experiences flavors differently.
That is something I have always believed, but this concept really hit home when I read something eye-opening about my favorite herb, cilantro.
According to EatingWell.com, for about 20% of the population cilantro tastes like soap?!
Wow!
So, it should come as no surprise that when I tried some other popular Copycat Taco Bell Quesadilla Sauce recipes online, none of them tasted quite right (to me).
Get To The Point, Man – What Is Different About THIS Copycat Recipe?
To me, Taco Bell’s Quesadilla Sauce tastes smokier and with a more pronounced sweet heat than I was getting from other recipes.
I made two modifications and created what I feel tastes like an exact replica of the restaurant version.
Here’s what I did:
- Added one additional ingredient: Calabrian Chilies
- Substituted Smoked Paprika for Regular Paprika
That’s it!
The Calabrian chilies brought the sweet-heat, slightly fruity flavor I needed.
And the smoked paprika kicked the smoky flavor up a couple notches.

Ingredients Used In This Taco Bell Quesadilla Sauce Copycat Recipe

My copycat version of this Taco Bell Quesadilla Sauce calls for four (4) fundamental ingredients.
The four ingredients you see in the pic above are:
- Pickled Jalapenos (Diced)
- Calabrian Chilies (Chopped)
- Mayonnaise
- Sour Cream
These foundational or ‘core’ ingredients get blended together with the brine (or juice) from the jar of diced jalapenos (shown below).

Other ingredients (besides the pickled jalapeno brine) used are dry ingredients, including:
- Smoked Paprika
- Garlic Powder
- Chopped Onion Dried (or Onion Powder)
- Salt
- Pepper

Recipe Equipment

The cookware needed is minimal:
- Countertop Blender
- Pyrex Measuring Cup
- Sauce Bowl and Spoon
Something else I disagree with other versions of this Copycat Taco Bell Quesadilla Sauce Recipe on in the use of a blender.
Other similar copycat versions of this recipe say that the ingredients can be mixed by hand.
I believe a blender is absolutely mandatory in order to achieve the smooth consistency that makes this quesadilla sauce very similar to Taco Bell’s version.
Any decent blender will do – as long as it has the speed and power to pulverize the ingredients sufficiently.
You don’t need the most expensive blender in the world to copy this recipe!
Although you might want it – LOL!
Tips & Substitutions
So, I already mentioned some of the modifications I make to this recipe in the introduction and discussion above.
But just to reiterate:
First and foremost: Add Calabrian Chilies – I don’t think this recipe is a perfect copycat without them.
Second: Substitute Smoked Paprika like this for regular paprika
You can omit Chili Powder if you use Calabrian Chili Peppers.
I don’t think it hurts anything.

If, you cannot get your hands on Calabrian Chilies, then use chili powder similar to what other versions of this recipe suggest.
For anyone who cannot eat dairy, this is probably not the sauce for you – unfortunately.
I just don’t think this copycat recipe can be done properly without the mayonnaise and sour cream elements, which are such a fundamental part of this quesadilla sauce.
The good news is, I have several recipes on SeasonalCookbook.com that DO NOT include dairy at all, such as my Aloo Beans (EASY Indian Recipe) and my Oven Baked Lemon Pepper Chicken Thighs.
Now, onto the recipe….
How To Store Copycat Taco Bell Quesadilla Sauce
First off, I would NOT recommend freezing.
This sauce tastes the best just after it is made and refrigerated for 30 minutes just so it is slightly chilled.
For longer-term storage, simply cover with a good plastic wrap like this and refrigerate.
How Long is Taco Bell’s Quesadilla Sauce Good For If Refrigerated?
I always try to finish this quesadilla sauce in about 3-4 days (once refrigerated).
One recommendation is to mix thoroughly with a spoon after being refrigerated for more than one day.

It tends to ‘clump’ very slightly after extended refrigeration.
As always, this recipe – like many others – tastes the best just after it is made.

The addition of Calabrian Chili Peppers is exactly what this copycat recipe needed, in my opinion, to taste just like the restaurant version of Taco Bell’s quesadilla sauce!
Thanks for the comment, Veronica! I wasn’t sure if anyone else would experience the flavor of Taco Bell’s quesadilla sauce the same way I do, but I really felt it needed the Calabrian chili peppers. I’m glad you agree!
